Swiss Tudor has launched a rather special Heritage Black Bay Bronze Blue with Bucherer, the Swiss watch and jewellery retailer.
Sure, it’s a bit of a mouthful, but behind the long-winded name is a very snappy watch.
Tudor launched the 43mm Tudor Heritage Black Bay Watch in 2016, in a brushed aluminium and bronze alloy case. It contained the in-house, COSC-certified Tudor MT5601 with a 70-hour power reserve. It has been filling out the Heritage Black Bay range to great effect over the last few years – adding a chronograph this year. You can read our entire breakdown of all the new Tudor models from Baselworld 2017 here.
For this edition, the chocolate shade used on the dial and bezel disc has been swapped out in favour of a deep navy blue.
Although we’ve seen plenty of blue watches – and nearly as many bronze ones – in the past couple of years, this one feels pretty special. The depth of the blue with that warm bronze is one thing – it will undoubtedly look awesome after a couple of years of patinating. It’s also special simply because Tudor doesn’t normally produce special editions.
The cream snowflake hands (taken from Tudor watches used by the French National Navy in the 1970s) and indices also work well with the new colour scheme. It gives the watch even more of a nautical feel than the original Heritage Black Bay Bronze. In fact, the whole thing puts us slightly in mind of an admiral’s dress uniform.
It comes on a choice of strap: either leather or (our favourite) a blue textile strap with the signature yellow thread – now gold – running up the centre.
Lucerne-based Bucherer has most recently been in the news for its acquisition of UK luxury watch retailer The Watch Gallery, with eventual plans to integrate all of The Watch Gallery’s boutiques under its own name.
Of course, The Watch Gallery also collaborated with brands on special editions, also usually in blue. The Heritage Black Bay Bronze Blue is part of a collection released to celebrate Bucherer’s 130th anniversary, taking place next year. It’s priced at 3,800 CHF.
